About the practice

Why we work this way

REWind Counseling was built around a simple idea, that healing from trauma shouldn't feel clinical or rushed. We offer a warm, grounded space where clients can process difficult experiences at a pace that feels safe.

A small practice, deliberately

Five licensed clinicians in one Kailua office. Small enough that we know each other's cases and can hand you to the right person rather than the available one.

Rachel Whipple, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience helping people heal from trauma, owns the practice and still sees clients. That matters more than it sounds. The person setting the standard is in the room doing the work.

Trauma is the work, not a sideline

Plenty of practices list trauma among a dozen specialties. Here it is the centre of gravity. Between us the team holds training in EMDR, play therapy, the Gottman Method, ILF neurofeedback, CBT, mindfulness, biofeedback and solution-focused work.

That range exists so the method can fit the person. Not everyone wants to talk. Some people need their nervous system to settle before talking is even possible.

What you can expect

Honest about fit

Your pace, not ours

Trauma work that moves faster than you can tolerate is not trauma work. We go at a speed that keeps you feeling safe, and we check.

Licensed clinicians only

Every therapist here is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. You can read all five bios before you book.

We will say so

If someone outside this practice would serve you better, we will tell you and help you find them. That is a better outcome than keeping you in the wrong room.

Rooted in the islands

Janina Martin was born and raised on Oahu. Chiyo Churchill has spent over two decades in Hawaii's behavioral health community. Chris Flores brings a culturally grounded presence as a Pacific Islander and veteran with a deep crisis background.

The pressures of life here are not the same as the pressures somewhere else, and neither is the way people carry them.

More than talk therapy

For people who would rather do concentrated work than spread it across months, we run two-day intensives, delivered alongside a physical therapist and a nurse.

Trauma lives in the body as well as the mind, and treating one while ignoring the other only gets you so far.
